Building the Espresso Maria Identity
Espresso Maria set out to redefine what a premium ready-to-drink cocktail can be. Blending the bold character of tequila with the rich sophistication of espresso, the brand sought to capture the cultural momentum of the espresso martini craze—while carving a new lane entirely. Designed for urban professionals, tastemakers, and social connectors, Espresso Maria embraces a modern lifestyle that values flavor, convenience, and cultural relevance.
Our role was to build an identity that not only commands attention in the crowded RTD category but establishes Espresso Maria as the must-have accessory for stylish, social-forward consumers.

⸺ The Challenge
The RTD landscape is booming—but crowded. Competitors dominate with convenience-focused messaging, playful party energy, or trendy vodka-based espresso martinis. Espresso Maria needed more than a great flavor; it needed a brand that felt premium, modern, and culturally relevant. The challenge was to create a corporate and visual identity that elevated Espresso Maria above its peers—signaling luxury spirit credibility while maintaining an energetic, approachable, “this is so you” vibe for younger consumers.
⸺ The Opportunity
The explosive intersection of two cultural trends—the espresso martini resurgence and the tequila boom—opened a clear lane for innovation. No RTD offering had fully captured the sophistication of a handcrafted espresso martini while leaning into tequila’s modern, adventurous spirit. Espresso Maria had the ability to occupy a white space: a product that looked and felt upscale but delivered convenience, fun, and lifestyle appeal. By embracing a digital-first, social-forward launch strategy, the brand could become a new cultural staple for 21–40 year-old urban professionals.
⸺ The Strategy
Our strategy focused on building a brand identity that conveys instant credibility and curated cool. We leaned into tone and aesthetics that blend high-fashion minimalism with playful personality—mirroring the energy of modern metropolitan nightlife. The visual system, packaging, and logo design were built to serve as powerful first-touch signals: confident, stylish, refined, and unmistakably premium. At the same time, messaging remained accessible and energetic, meeting millennials and Gen Z where they already engage—through social storytelling, behind-the-scenes content, and influencer alignment.
⸺ The Creative Solution
To differentiate Espresso Maria, we built an identity rooted in premium tequila craft and elevated espresso culture. This meant pairing sleek design with a bold, expressive tone.
Key creative elements included:
• A refined visual identity that balances elegance with modern edge
• A brand voice that is sexy, bold, confident, and fun
• Lifestyle-driven content showcasing real moments, real people, and real culture
• Positioning the product as the ultimate on-the-go espresso martini—handcrafted energy in a can
This approach allowed Espresso Maria to ride the popular espresso martini wave while standing apart through its tequila base and high-end, fashion-forward appearance.
⸺ The Market Context & Competition
With players like Cutwater, Mamitas, High Noon, and NightOwl shaping the RTD landscape, consumers are flooded with options. But each competitor leaves room:
• Cutwater: Quality cocktails, limited lifestyle identity
• Mamitas: Fun and social, not premium
• High Noon: Sessionable, not sophisticated
• NightOwl: Trend-driven vodka espresso martinis, nightlife-centric
Combined with on-premise trends showing massive espresso martini adoption, a gap emerged for a fresher, more refined, tequila-powered option. Espresso Maria’s brand identity was built to claim that gap decisively.
⸺ The Results & Impact
Espresso Maria launched with a bold, polished identity that immediately resonated with its target audience. Early indicators show strong consumer interest, positive feedback from tastemakers, and rapid traction in digital channels. The brand now stands positioned to own the tequila-espresso RTD space, expand distribution, and secure cultural recognition as the go-to premium espresso martini in a can. With a distinctive visual system, clear positioning, and a strategic digital-first presence, Espresso Maria is primed for sustained growth and category leadership.
